Stone Church Players (aka SCP) will present The Last Five Years opening Friday, October 13th and running for one weekend only with performances at 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday. Directed by SCP board member Jesse Luciani of Red Bank and Lizzy Stefanic of Matawan, with musical direction by Kara Leigh of Toms River, the crew also includes Lindsay Abbot as Producer, Felicia Russell as Stage Manager, and Darren DeAngelo of Keansburg as Set Designer. This stunning “jewel box” production from acclaimed composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade and The Bridges of Madison County) explores the ups and downs of a five-year marriage.
Thomas Krey of Barnegat and Emily DeMaio of Tinton Falls are Jamie Wellerstein and Cathy Hiatt, a rising novelist and a struggling actress who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters meet only once, at their wedding in the middle of the show. Mr. Krey is a recent graduate from the The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. His credits include Edward Bloom in Big Fish, Willard in Footloose, and Cousin Kevin in The Who’s Tommy. Ms. DeMaio is a local actor who has appeared on stage at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, Spring Lake Theatre in Spring Lake, Exit 82 in Toms River, and Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan. Her recent credits include Lucy in Avenue Q, Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors and Dragon/Mama Bear in Shrek. Both Mr. Krey and Ms. DeMaio are making their SCP debuts.
