It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Kick off your holiday season with SCP’s annual radio play. This year we are thrilled to return to “Miracle on 34th Street”, last performed at the All Saints’ Memorial Church back in 2015. Performances will be held Saturday, December 3rd at 8 pm and Sunday December 4th at 2 pm. Directed by Lindsay Abbot of Rumson and Caitlin Martin of Highlands, the event will feature Musical Director Mike Kabash of Rumson on piano. The cast includes 10 wonderfully talented actors who have all performed in past SCP productions.
Artistic Director Michael F. McClellan leads the cast as Kris Kringle, the new Macy’s Santa Claus who claims to be the real thing. Mr. McClellan was last seen as Clarence in last year’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” and recently directed “The Bridges of Madison County”. Christine Jay voices Doris Walker, a director at Macy’s who initially discovers Kris. Ms. Jay is a veteran of the SCP stage and has appeared in and directed many productions including last season’s “Little Women, The Musical”. She was last seen as Roxane in our staged reading of “Cyrano de Bergerac”. Clover Jay of Freehold is taking on the role of Susan Walker, Doris Walker’s 8-year-old daughter. Clover and mom Christine have shared the stage several times most notably in this year’s “Anyone Can Whistle” with NENAproductions and the 2016 SCP production of “Once Upon a Mattress”. Aaron “Juice” Jackson rounds out the principal cast as the Walkers’ neighbor, Fred Gailey, a lawyer who befriends Kris. Mr. Jackson has appeared in over 10 SCP productions, most recently as Claudius in “Hamlet”.
The show features a very talented ensemble cast voicing multiple parts. SCP veterans Cynthia Dannen of Rumson and Andrew Struse of Middletown are joined by relative newcomers Darren DeAngelo of Keansburg, Jesse R. Luciani of Red Bank, Leslie B. Patient of Middletown, and Lizzy Stefanic of Matawan.
Show synopsis (from Out of the Box Theatre): Come enjoy the timeless story of an old man who calls himself Kris Kringle and is hired as the Macy's department store Santa. His claim to be the real Santa Claus becomes a court case and a young child's belief could make all the difference.
